The Orange Mountains are a sub-range of the Watchung Mountains located in northern New Jersey. The name ‘Orange’ derives from the composition of the orange basalt found in the mountains, resulting from the volcanic origin of the mountain range. Discovered campsites in the territory provide evidence that these mountains were home to the indigenous Lenape people, who benefited from the rich mountain soil, numerous rivers and streams, diverse forests and an abundance of fish and wild animals.
